GIOVANNI PRESENZA

Art is my life. It has always been a defining part of who I am. Creativity and a sense of Being go hand in hand.

Through art I am encouraged to use my imagination to create a higher sense of purpose, fulfillment and a deeper understanding of existence as constantly shifting, as an eternal journey of self- discovery.

My creative process also includes writing free style prose/ poetry and various disciplines which are a constant challenge to my perception and beliefs which include: Biology, Religious studies, Psychology, Philosophy, Metaphysics and my favourite subject, Existentialism.

Everyday is a gift to be appreciated, savoured and shared-never to be taken for granted. This is the meaning of Life.

The female form intrigues me most of all: the power of women and their spiritual energy. They represent the Goddess and are linked with virtues such as beauty, love, motherhood, devotion, fertility, creativity and unconditional love. Just as Mother gives birth, the Earth is the embodiment of life-giving and nurturing aspects of nature-the ancestral Mother of all Life. There is a magical connection to both experiences and personifies that relationship as nourishing and spiritual.

I do not strive for excessive overall detail. rather my aspirations focus on the depth of the eyes in order to penetrate into the seat of the soul, the mind; leading the observer into the pictoral rendering, allowing a momentary escape from reality to see deeply into the essence of another.

I feel very comfortable with the watercolour medium because of its ability to maintain its brightness as well as its ability to flow loosely. Charcoal, graphite acrylic mediums are sometimes combined to achieve my desired result. Both visual and tactile texture play a part as well.

I know a piece has turned out when I stand back and I “see” that what I have created before me has expressed that which resides within my soul and I made a connection between artist, subject, viewer and wOrld.
