Michelle Hunter is the artist behind Metamorphosis Glass Works. Michelle has been fully immersed in all things glass for several years and loves everything there is to love about being a maker. The freedom to grow and challenge yourself is unparalleled.
“Prior to eating, sleeping and breathing all things glass I had spent 15 years building a career in the field of Human Resources. Personal life events in 2013/2014 had me look more closely at my priorities, namely my family. I decided to walk away from my career and do things that could give ease to others during some of life’s toughest moments. I also took some classes: photography, pottery, and then … stained glass! I loved it right away, I couldn’t get enough of it!”
“The name “Metamorphosis” was chosen for a couple of reasons:
to honour my stepdad (his last name loosely translated means butterfly) he was one of my biggest cheerleaders and I am so grateful to have benefited from his love and guidance.
to symbolize the journey life has us go on, each piece becomes part of a bigger picture if you let it.
to celebrate the process for glass: some grains of sand, some heat and a little bit of chemistry becomes the most beautiful sheets of glass.
My cozy little studio is situated in our backyard so everyday my four legged studio buddy Ralph and I walk on over and get things done. Well, I try to get things done, Ralph on the other hand thinks we should go to the park….
Truly, if you had told me 6 years ago that I would be doing this I wouldn’t have believed you. And yet now, I can’t imagine doing anything else. I am so grateful for so many things that this journey has taught me, the people I have met, the things I have learned and continue to learn. It feels like an intense roller coaster some days but I wouldn’t trade this for the world.
Thank you for engaging, liking my work and for appreciating what I do!”
